Healthy eating can be challenging when you are on the road for long hours. When traveling it\u2019s important to plan ahead to ensure that you keep to your healthy eating pattern.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Planning:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>For how\nlong will I be on the road?<\/li><li>How many\npeople need meals?<\/li><li>Which\nmeals do you need to plan for?<\/li><li>How many\nmeals will be needed of each meal?<\/li><li>How will\nI package my meals to make sure it is safe to eat?<\/li><li>Will we\nstop to eat, or will we continue driving while eating?<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Some\nideas for perishable foods include fresh fruits and vegetables, hard-boiled\neggs, and cheese. Make sure to add an ice box to a cooler to keep the foods\ncool. Some ideas for non-perishable foods include nuts and seeds, popcorn,\nbiltong, and pretzels. Pack these snacks in smaller packages so that you don\u2019t\nconsume the full packet in on go. Having these snacks in the car will help you\nto be less tempted to buy snacks at the shop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Meal Ideas:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Breakfast:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Smoothie\nmade at home<\/li><li>Overnight\nOats<\/li><li>Bran\nMuffin<\/li><li>Sandwich\nwith egg, cold meat or cheese and tomato<\/li><li>Whole\nwheat breakfast wrap with egg<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Lunch:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Whole\ngrain sandwich with preferred filling<\/li><li>Whole\nwheat wraps with preferred filling (chicken, beans, hummus, or beef with salad\ngreen such as baby spinach, tomato, and cucumber)<\/li><li>Brown\npita bread with preferred filling<\/li><li>Pasta\nsalad<\/li><li>Quinoa\nsalad<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Snacks:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Whole\ngrain crackers with cheese, hummus, or peanut butter<\/li><li>Popcorn<\/li><li>Lean\nbiltong<\/li><li>Nuts<\/li><li>Seeds<\/li><li>Fresh\nFruit<\/li><li>Vegetables\nsuch as mini corn, carrots or celery<\/li><li>Yogurt<\/li><li>Hard-boiled\negg<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Drinks:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Lots of\nwater!<\/li><li>Rooibos\ntea<\/li><li>Keep a\nsmall flask with coffee (limit to 3-4 cups a day)<\/li><li>Low\ncalorie cordials<\/li><li>Zero\nsugar drinks<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>By trying these tips, you will be on your way to healthy traveling. Even though you make the healthy choice, remember that to much of a good thing is also not that good.
